Starter course
(COMPULSORY)
Mathematics
For ETC Mathematics, we have chosen what we feel are the 30 main topics. As the children work through their course, they will be expected to complete examples and make notes while doing so. Children are expected to spend approximately seven minutes on each topic. For high-achievers who complete their work quickly, we provide an extension section.
English
For English, work is dependent on the particular tests a child is taking. Work includes exercises in spelling, punctuation, comprehension and vocabulary. Children will also work on their creative writing skills including planning, content, paragraphing, punctuation etc. So that they can practice, Verbal Reasoning and Nonverbal Reasoning exercises are set.
Exam Technique
To hone a child’s examination techniques we discuss with him or her the different aspects of preparing for the 11+. We also talk to parents so that they can help their children study by knowing what to work on, the timing of set questions etc.

How to study
(TAKEN ONCE COURSE 1 and 2 ARE COMPLETE)
For children who have already completed two courses during the holidays, Course 3 begins with working from past examination papers.
Each child is different and works at his/her own pace – we may stop a child before they have reached the end of a paper to help them or leave them to complete it before going through it with them. By now we have a good understanding of each student’s needs and can cater to them as true individuals.
Although study techniques will have been covered in previous courses, Course 3 concentrates on this aspect of exam preparation putting emphasis on the need to spend more time on topics the child may find difficult and revision.
