RELATIONSHIP
Teacher assistants must above all like children and enjoy working with them. They must be able to build up a friendly relationship with the pupils. If they can’t then they will not be allowed to remain.

MARK
Teacher Assistants must mark and comment upon the work each child does. The assistant must also ensure that the work is dated, headed, underlined and ruled off. Also make sure the work is signed off on the Action Plan.

REFER
The Teacher Assistant must refer to the teacher in charge if any changes in the lesson content seem to be indicated or they feel are needed.

ASK

REMARKS
The Teacher Assistants must be aware that they must be careful with remarks that they address to the pupils because what may be meant as a joke could easily be taken the wrong way by the pupil.

If they express dissatisfaction with the lesson they must get them to give specific reasons, this must be communicated to the teacher in charge. They must also encourage the pupils to say what they would like to work on.

INDICATE
The Teacher Assistant should also indicate on the Action Plan which exercises the pupil has completed and whether the level of the work selected should be changed. If in doubt they need to refer to the teacher in charge.
