Job Descriptions

Job Title: Extra Tuition Assessor

Reporting To: Director, Extra Tuition Centre

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

We select our assessors on the basis that they are fully qualified teachers who have been through a CRB check and have the necessary experience to carry out assessments correctly. Our reasons for this is that the assessment stage is a crucial part of our teaching methods, therefore we also look to see if the candidate has taught with us before and is aware of our assessment methods. It is very important to us that potential assessors are familiar with our own methods of teaching and can adapt themselves to this method while keeping in sync with the requirements of the national curriculum.

Assessors need no further qualifications other than those above, and since we offer on-the-job training, we guide our assessors through the sensitive process of marking.

Qualities Required

  • Make the Assessment experience a positive one
  • Put the child at ease
  • Make sure that child understands each separate assessment text
  • Able to grade and mark effectively and correctly
  • Display results accurately
  • Report back to parents in a truthful and diplomatic manner the nature of child’s results
  • Responsibility of giving advice if asked by parents
  • Able to explain the test objectives to parents

Role at the Centre

The assessor is the first person the parent and child comes into contact with, and therefore is the first person that our customers form their first impressions from. This means that our assessors are, in a sense, the ‘face’ of our operations. They present the initial taste of our philosophy, which is anchored within ‘family’ values, and highlights the necessity for approachability, trust and support. This means that all our assessors must have good public relations skills and be able to create an atmosphere of security. Good communication skills are also a must, as the assessor should be aware that their language and ‘phrasing’ of results are vital to reassuring the customer of our professionalism. An assessor must also be vigilant with clarity (unbiased) marking skills, but also be sensitive to other factors that might affect the final results. This is where pervious experience in assessing comes in, as our assessors must also be sensitive to any external issues a child might have.

  • Good public relations
  • Good communication skills
  • Good interpretation skills
  • Able to give customers a good first impression
  • Encouraging attitude to both parent and child
  • Knowledge that HOW they mark/ interpret the results affects the type of work a child will receive
