Using the Etc Approach in Bexley
Etc’s Personalised Learning Method focuses on building strength in mathematics and English. It has been working successfully for over 30 years in tuition centres across Kent and South East London. Recent advances in internet tools means that the benefits of individualised lesson planning within the National Curriculum framework can be taken up by schools. The approach helps the teacher who is working with a number of pupils, each of whom needs a work plan that is appropriate, but different from that of others in the class group.
Schools can use the Etc Personalised Learning approach to provide additional support to pupils in a number of different ways:
- Within their normal school activities as a way of improving performance for specific groups of individuals
- As an after-school activity
- As a personalised learning service for pupils from feeder primary schools
The cornerstone of the Etc Personalised Learning Method is etcACTION, a web based tool that generates individualised lesson plans using selected exercises from popular textbooks and internet resources. This personalised learning approach allows pupils to follow a programme of work made up from individual lessons and allows tutors and LSAs to provide a high level of support without the overheads of a 1:1 tutor support system.
The approach is scaleable, so it can be used initially with a small number of pupils and expanded as necessary into additional classes.
