The ETC Approach to Personalised Learning
Building Effective Learning Plans
The Etc approach is built upon high quality tutors, evaluation and lesson planning. The support process for a pupil begins with a comprehensive formative assessment to develop a profile of the pupil’s current levels of performance in mathematics and English. Along with the profile of the pupil's performance against National Curriculum levels, discussions with the pupil, teachers and parents help to identify how confidence and motivation issues influence the way the pupil is progressing at school. The tutors use the outcomes of the assessment to establish a personalised learning plan for each individual pupil targetted at the specific development needs of the individual pupil.
Each Etc lesson plan is a structured step to take the pupil forward on their personalised journey towards their individual learning goals. EtcACTION builds each lesson from short learning elements, roughly 10 to 12 minutes in duration. These lesson elements provide a range of learning activities at pace that encourages pupils to move on to the next element. Each element is assessed quantitively (how many marks), and pupils also feedback on how well they enjoyed the work as well as if they found it easy or difficult. This feedback on performance is then entered into etcACTION to generate the next lesson plan. Though the lesson plans are generated automatically, the tutor can use their own judgements to alter the lesson plan in real time using simple drop-down selections, for example to select particular types of work or move pupils forward more quickly.
