Exam Types
The Essex tests consist of English and mathematics (both standard format) and a Verbal Reasoning paper that is multiple choice. All papers are set by NFER.

The Consortium for Selective Schools in Essex (Grammar School Admissions/ Authority)

General Information
The selective examinations in Essex are governed by the Essex Consortium which consists of 12 schools in total (8 Grammar Schools and 4 Comprehensive Schools). While the four comprehensive schools do not use selective tests, they do accept a percentage of pupils from the grammar school examinations.

A list of these schools can be found below. Any other schools that are outside the consortium that have selective testing should have their own tests, therefore it is advisable that parents check with these schools, or their local education authority in their area for details.

It should be noted that while the Grammar Schools in Southend belong to the Essex Consortium, the admissions for those schools should go through the Southend Borough Council.
