There are a total of six grammar schools in Berkshire, but Slough has its own consortium which is made up of Langley Grammar, Herschel Grammar and St Bernards Catholic Grammar School. Children that are outside this catchment area will sit their examinations on the first Saturday of November. These are areas in Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. Pupils inside the catchment areas will take their exams in their own Primary schools in the first week of November.
Slough Grammar is different to the rest of the schools in the area. The tests are the same and the admission forms need to be obtained from the school itself. You will also need the Local Authority Common Application Form, which can be gained from the Local Education Department.
A list of these schools can be found below. Any other schools that are outside the consortium that have selective testing should have their own tests, therefore it is advisable that parents check with these schools or their local education authority for details. For information on admissions to a selective Slough grammar scholl, please downlaod the Slough Secondary School Booklet.
NOTE: Grammar schools in Reading have different tests. The Kendrick Girls Grammar school test is taken in November. This consists of Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning (both set by NFER). They are both standard version. The Reading School exams consist of Verbal or Nonverbal Reasoning, English and a mathematics test. For admissions information please visit the Reading Council Education and Learning page and select the school that you wish to enter for.
