Getting started is sometimes the most difficult aspect of preparing for the 11+ exam. Our Easter courses give children an introduction to the standards expected of them when they take their 11+ and help them understand how best to prepare.

Easter Course 1 Content
The 11 Plus Syllabus
Every one who attends an Easter course will start with course 1.
Mathematics
In Course 1, children will study the selected 30 key mathematics topics and be expected to complete examples and take notes. Each child is expected to spend approximately seven minutes on each topic and for children who work quickly, an extension section is provided.
English
Children will work on a combination of comprehension, punctuation, vocabulary and spelling depending on the tests they are due to take. We also work on creative writing skills including hints and tips on planning, content, paragraphing and punctuation.
To practice, Verbal and Nonverbal Reasoning exercises are given.
Exam Technique
To help children and parents prepare effectively, we spend time talking to them to explain how best to study, what to work on etc. We encourage parents and children to make a study schedule together.
Easter Course 2 Content
Revision of specific topics
Mathematics
Each child will be expected to take a short maths test every day so that we can identify which topics they should be concentrating on. Revision questions are then provided for children to work through at their own pace while we offer support and study hints.
English
Depending on the tests each child is taking, work is set which includes spelling, vocabulary, punctuation and comprehension. We also cover creative writing skills including planning and content, punctuation and paragraphing. Help with concentration and dealing with tricky questions is also given.
Practice exercises are given to work on Verbal and Nonverbal Reasoning.
Exam Technique
To encourage parents and children to work towards their goals together, we speak to both to offer help on preparing effectively for the 11+ examinations. We ask children to make a schedule for revision with their parents.
